The Wetherspoons chain is now the toast of the real ale drinking classes.
They offer some of the cheapest and best cask beers with quality, affordable food thrown in. There are a burgeoning number of them around the city and two of them have made in to the 2008 CAMRA Good Beer Guide, an honour akin to beiong granted sainthood by the Pope.

Enchanted by the moody location shots of Fort Perch Rock lighthouse in the new Beatles flick Across the Universe, Lady Penelope of Pensby and the Pub Column decided to reaquaint ourselves with New Brighton.

What is it about the Childwall Fiveways roundabout that sends Yours Truly into a cold sweat?
Being a simple northern soul (as in north Liverpool) the sense of direction goes completely out of the car window when approaching this crucial part of south Liverpool. Inevitably, instead of heading to the chosen destination further south, say like Speke, the jalopy will somehow mysteriously make the wrong turn and return back into town a bit like one of those planes that goes AWOL in the Bermuda Triangle.
